Vallejo, CA Noise Ordinances: Quiet Hours (2026)

Chapter 7.84 of the Vallejo Municipal Code regulates noise disturbances citywide. Section 7.84.010 makes it unlawful to willfully make or continue any loud, unnecessary, and unusual noise that disturbs the peace of a neighborhood, weighing factors like the time of day, proximity to residential sleeping areas, and whether the noise is recurrent or constant. Section 7.84.020 then lists specific prohibitions, two of which set the nighttime quiet-hours curfew. Subsection F bars loading, unloading, opening, closing, or otherwise handling boxes, crates, containers, building materials, or garbage cans between 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. in a manner that causes a noise disturbance across a residential property boundary; the city's own franchised garbage and recycling collection is exempted.

Subsection G bars operating any mechanically powered saw, drill, sander, grinder, lawn or garden tool, or lawnmower between the same 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. window if it creates a noise disturbance across a residential boundary. The chapter also separately restricts amplified sound devices, advertising noise, barking animals, and burglar or fire alarms that run more than ten minutes, and limits testing of emergency signaling devices to between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. for no more than sixty seconds per test. Section 7.84.050 exempts activities of public entities, including the Greater Vallejo Recreation District and the Vallejo City Unified School District.

Noise disturbances near hospitals, churches during worship, courthouses during operating hours, and schools during school hours are separately barred at any time under Section 7.84.020(H).
