Cicero, IL Noise Ordinances: Vehicle Noise (2026)

Sec. 38-27 of the Town of Cicero Code of Ordinances lists three separate vehicle-noise clauses. ,' bars sounding a horn or signal device on any automobile, motorcycle, bus or other vehicle except when reasonably necessary for safe operation, and separately bars any unreasonably loud or harsh sound from such a device or sounding it for an unreasonable period of time. Subsection (4), 'Exhaust discharge,' bars discharging exhaust from any steam engine, stationary internal combustion engine, motor vehicle or motorboat engine into the open air except through a muffler or other device that effectively prevents loud noises.

Subsection (12), 'Use of vehicles,' separately bars using any automobile, motorcycle or vehicle that is so out of repair, so loaded, or operated in such a manner as to create loud grating, grinding, rattling or other noise. All three are declared violations of Sec. 00 per offense. Separately, Sec. 00 for a third or subsequent violation, and a vehicle with a violating alarm parked on a roadway can be declared a public nuisance and impounded under the Chapter 94 impoundment procedures.
