Elk Grove, CA Noise Ordinances: Vehicle Noise (2026)

Elk Grove enforces vehicle noise primarily under the California Vehicle Code, with local authority through EGMC Title 4 for stationary vehicles and street racing. CVC section 27150 requires all vehicles to have mufflers preventing excessive or unusual noise, and CVC 27151 prohibits modification that increases noise above factory levels. CVC 27007 bars car stereos audible more than 50 feet from the vehicle. Elk Grove Police conduct periodic enforcement along Elk Grove Boulevard, Highway 99 corridor, and the Outlet Collection area. California Assembly Bill 1824 (2022) authorized sound-activated automated enforcement cameras in pilot cities, but Elk Grove is not in the initial rollout.
