Kane County sets no county-specific vehicle-noise decibel rule for unincorporated areas. Vehicle and engine noise is governed by Illinois Vehicle Code muffler requirements and the state noise rules. Automobile/motorcycle racing tracks have specific state noise exceptions.
Loud vehicles in unincorporated Kane County are addressed mainly through the Illinois Vehicle Code (muffler and exhaust requirements) and enforced by the Sheriff, not a distinct county decibel ordinance. Under the Illinois Pollution Control Board rules, land used for automobile and motorcycle racing is exempt from the general property-line limits (35 Ill. Adm. Code 901.107), but that exception does not cover racing events started late at night. Ordinary street traffic on public roads is generally exempt from the property-line noise standards, so everyday pass-by vehicle noise is a Vehicle Code matter. Persistent modified-exhaust or idling noise disturbing residents can also be raised with the Sheriff.
Muffler/exhaust violations are enforced under the Illinois Vehicle Code by the Sheriff. Racing-facility noise outside the late-night exception window is subject to the state property-line limits.
