Warren, MI Noise Ordinances: Vehicle Noise (2026)

Section 21-28(a) makes it unlawful to discharge exhaust from any steam engine, stationary internal combustion engine, or motor vehicle into the open air except through a muffler or other device that effectively prevents loud explosive noises. m. 707, and sits alongside a related honking rule at Sec. 21-22, which bars sounding a horn or signal device except as a danger warning, and bars creating an unreasonably loud or harsh signal sound or sounding a horn for an unnecessary period. A separate provision, Sec. 21-31, bars making a commotion or unnecessarily loud noise, or playing loud or profane music, from a motor vehicle whether moving or parked, where it disturbs the peace of the neighborhood or annoys nearby residents.
