Warren, MI Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Section 37-702(c) of the Traffic and Motor Vehicles chapter targets heavy commercial equipment specifically: it is unlawful to park any truck, truck tractor, truck trailer, or any combination of them, self-propelled or not, on a street in a residential area of the city. The ordinance carves out a narrow weight exemption for panel trucks or trucks with a manufacturer load rating of three-quarters of a ton (1,500 pounds) or less, which are not covered by the ban at all. A second carve-out allows temporary parking by a covered truck while it delivers merchandise to a residence on that street, renders another service requiring the vehicle's presence, or is undergoing an emergency road repair.

The ordinance is explicit that this temporary-parking exception 'shall not include overnight parking,' so a delivery truck that finishes its stop and stays parked overnight loses the exemption and becomes a straightforward violation. on any day, including Sundays and holidays, unless the police commissioner has issued a special parking permit for good cause and for a defined period. Subsection (d) gives the city a third enforcement tool: once a street is posted with a 'Commercial vehicles keep off' sign, no commercial motor vehicle or merchandise-hauling vehicle may use it at all, except for the shortest distance necessary to reach or cross the property it serves; the department of parks and recreation is exempt from that particular restriction.
