Coral Gables enforces abandoned vehicle removal under Chapter 74 of the Code of Ordinances and Florida Statutes Chapter 715. Vehicles left on public streets or private property without authorization are subject to tagging, towing, and impoundment through the city's wrecker service program.
The City of Coral Gables addresses abandoned vehicles under Chapter 74 (Traffic and Vehicles), Article V (Wrecker Service) of the Code of Ordinances, in conjunction with Florida Statutes Chapter 715 (Disposal of Abandoned or Lost Property). A vehicle is considered abandoned if left on public property for more than the time allowed by posted signs, or on private property without the owner's consent. Code Enforcement and the Coral Gables Police Department identify and tag abandoned vehicles, providing notice to the registered owner before towing. Vehicles parked on public streets that appear inoperable, have expired tags, flat tires, or visible deterioration are subject to abandoned vehicle enforcement. The city contracts with licensed wrecker services under Article V of Chapter 74 for towing and impoundment. Property owners may also request removal of unauthorized vehicles from their private property through Code Enforcement at (305) 460-5216.
Abandoned vehicles are subject to tagging, towing, and impoundment at the owner's expense. Vehicle owners must pay towing and storage fees to recover impounded vehicles. Failure to claim a towed vehicle within the statutory period results in the vehicle being declared abandoned and potentially auctioned.
