Lima declares junk motor vehicles on private property a public nuisance under Codified Ordinance 1806.16. Ohio law (ORC 4513.63) also treats vehicles left 48 hours or longer on public or private property as abandoned junk.
Under Section 1806.16, the deposit, parking, storage or collection of junk motor vehicles on private property is a public nuisance and must be removed or fully concealed inside a building or code-compliant fence (collector-vehicle exception). Owners receiving a removal notice may appeal to the Board of Building Appeals within five days, with a $25 fee. Statewide, Ohio Revised Code 4513.63 defines an abandoned junk motor vehicle as one left on private property (without permission) or on a public street for 48 hours or longer, three-plus years old, extensively damaged, inoperable, and worth $1,500 or less. Such vehicles may be towed and disposed of.
Nuisance junk vehicles draw a notice to remove; noncompliance leads to citations, abatement and possible towing. State-abandoned vehicles may be towed and sold.
