Baldwin Park bars storing or parking any commercial vehicle over one ton in any residential zone (Zoning Code 153.120.460). On streets, vehicles over three tons are limited to designated truck routes, and business-advertising vehicles may not stay on a street more than two hours. Vehicles over 6,000 lbs are restricted on commercial/industrial lots.
Baldwin Park imposes layered limits on commercial-vehicle parking. Zoning Code Section 153.120.460(E) states that no person shall store or park any commercial vehicle, as described in the State Vehicle Code, weighing over one ton in any residential zone. Section 153.120.460(F) adds that no vehicle weighing over 6,000 pounds may be stored or parked on any commercially or industrially zoned lot except in an off-street parking or loading facility permitted under the Zoning Code. On public streets, the Traffic Code (Section 72.21, Parking of Trucks, Special Use Vehicles and the Like) prohibits parking or leaving standing any vehicle exceeding a maximum gross weight of three tons on any street other than designated truck routes, where the limit is two hours. The same section provides that no person shall park, on any city street for more than two hours, a motor vehicle bearing the name of a business or a sign advertising a product or service painted, attached or affixed to it. Section 72.21 also restricts trailers, semitrailers, trailer coaches, pole dollies and special mobile equipment from being left standing on a street unless attached to a vehicle that can move them. Exceptions apply to public-utility and licensed-contractor vehicles in active use, and to commercial vehicles actively making pickups, deliveries or hauling construction materials. A resident may apply to the police chief for a permit where on-site parking is insufficient.
Storing an over-one-ton commercial vehicle in a residential zone is a Zoning Code violation handled by code enforcement. Oversized or advertising commercial vehicles left on the street beyond the limits in Section 72.21 may be cited and, where applicable, towed by the Police Department Traffic Bureau.
