Bergenfield, NJ Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Borough Code § 221-11, adopted July 20, 2021 by Ordinance No. 21-2576, prohibits parking any commercial vehicle with more than one rear axle, longer than 22 feet from bumper to bumper, or wider than eight feet or taller than eight feet six inches to the top of the racks, on residential property anywhere in Bergenfield. The ordinance has one narrow exception: a resident may park a single qualifying commercial vehicle at a residential address only if that address is the vehicle operator's primary residence. To use the exception, the owner must file a photocopy of the vehicle registration, proof the address is the primary residence, and proof of employment with the company that owns the registered truck with the Borough Code Enforcement Department.

Approval renews on the same schedule as the vehicle's state registration, and the Department issues a nontransferable three-inch-by-two-inch sticker that must be displayed in the passenger-side rear window. Only one commercial vehicle per primary resident qualifies, and no commercial trailer of any kind may be parked in a residential zone, registered or not. The ordinance also folds in two cross-referenced restrictions from the Land Development chapter: § 186-65 governs how the vehicle's storage contents must be handled, and § 186-49A(2) bars parking on any part of a residential lot other than the driveway.

Any change in the registered vehicle must be reported to the Borough. Residents who park a qualifying commercial vehicle without first registering it, or who otherwise violate the article's terms, face escalating daily fines rather than a single citation.
