Bergenfield restricts driveway width, surface materials, and curb cuts on residential lots, and prohibits parking on lawns or any non-driveway areas.
Bergenfield's zoning regulations limit driveway width to 19 feet or 40% of property frontage (not exceeding 25 feet), whichever is greater. Driveways must sit at least two feet from the side property line and be landscaped. Circular driveways are barred on lots under 100 feet of frontage and curb cuts cannot exceed 20 feet. Acceptable surfaces are concrete, asphalt, brick pavers, crushed red or blue stone, or turf pavers. A Building Department permit is required to widen, alter, construct, or repair a driveway.
Parking on lawns or any non-driveway area on residential lots is expressly prohibited. Building or widening a driveway without a permit, exceeding width caps, or using unapproved surfaces violates the zoning chapter and triggers Code Enforcement action.
