Bergenfield, NJ Parking Rules: Driveway Rules (2026)

Chapter 186, Land Development, § 186-49 sets Bergenfield's off-street parking and driveway standards for one- and two-family lots. Under subsection O, no driveway may be constructed, installed, expanded, modified or extended wider than 19 feet or 40% of the property's frontage, capped at 25 feet, whichever figure is greater; every driveway must sit at least two feet off the side property line and be landscaped. Subsection S restricts paving to concrete, asphalt, brick pavers, red or blue crushed stone chips, or turf pavers, so gravel, dirt or mulch surfaces do not qualify.

Circular driveways are barred on any lot under 100 feet of frontage (§ 186-49P), and lots under that frontage get only one curb cut, while lots at or above 100 feet with a circular drive can have two (§ 186-49Q); no drop curb can exceed 20 feet in width (§ 186-49R). Subsection V bans parking on lawns or any other nondriveway surface on residential lots outright, closing off the workaround of parking on grass beside a narrow driveway.
