Fauquier County, VA Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Section 13-34, in Chapter 13's stopping, standing and parking article, imposes two distinct rules on heavy and commercial vehicles. Subsection (b) caps parking time at two hours for any vehicle with a gross weight over 12,000 pounds or a length of 30 feet or more when parked on a street adjacent to a commercial business area, unless the vehicle is actively loading, unloading, waiting to load or unload, or engaged in utility or similar service work. Subsection (c) is broader still: it bars parking any motor vehicle, trailer or semitrailer on or adjacent to county highways when the parking is for a commercial purpose, though the rule does not reach motor vehicle carriers picking up or discharging passengers.

Both provisions sit within the general parking framework of Sec. 13-34, which also lets law enforcement move a violating vehicle at the owner's expense under subsection (d). The rule targets exactly the kind of overnight or long-term tractor-trailer parking that residents near commercial corridors complain about, while carving out working vehicles genuinely engaged in deliveries or utility service.
