Fauquier County, VA Noise Ordinances: Construction Hours (2026)

Sec. 13.5-3(e) directly prohibits operating a bulldozer, dump truck, crane, backhoe, front loader, pile driver, jackhammer, pneumatic drill, or other construction equipment outside the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Friday, and 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, unless the county administrator or a designee specifically authorizes different hours in writing. Sec. 13.5-4(b) separately exempts general construction, repair, maintenance, remodeling, demolition and grading activity from the chapter's other sound-level prohibitions during those same windows, but item (1) of that subsection adds a further restriction: no such activity may commence before 9:00 a.m. on Saturdays, Sundays, or federal holidays, even though the general exempt window otherwise opens at 9:00 a.m. for weekend activities generally.

Together the two sections mean weekday construction can run from 7:00 a.m., Friday evening work can run to 11:00 p.m., and weekend or holiday work is squeezed to a 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. band with no earlier start permitted by written authorization for the specific construction-activity exemption. A contractor who needs an earlier or later start outside these windows must get written authorization from the county administrator or designee under Sec. 13.5-3(e); without it, working outside the stated hours is a chapter violation regardless of decibel level.
