Johns Creek's Zoning Ordinance bars trucks and trailers exceeding four tons empty weight from being stored or parked in residential or agricultural districts (Sec. 18.3.2), and requires delivery/service or advertising commercial vehicles in commercial and office districts to be parked in side or rear yards, not the front (Sec. 18.3.7).
Commercial-vehicle parking in Johns Creek is governed by the Zoning Ordinance (Appendix A, Article XVIII). Under Sec. 18.3.2 (Limitation on Trucks), except for trucks used in farming the property or in conjunction with a permitted use, trucks and/or trailers exceeding four tons empty weight shall not be stored or parked in any Agricultural or Residential zoning district unless engaged in moving household goods or making deliveries. The city's Code Compliance division restates this as a prohibition on vehicles with a gross weight over four tons at residences. Sec. 18.3.7 (Commercial Vehicle Parking) governs commercial and office districts: delivery/service trucks and vans, and trucks/vans displaying advertising of a business located on the property, must be parked within the side or rear yard and may not be parked within the front yard, except vehicles parked temporarily while making a delivery, providing a service, or purchasing goods or services. If there is no parking area in the side or rear, the vehicle may be parked in front. Passenger cars displaying advertising may be parked in the front yard, but no vehicle with advertising may park in a space adjacent to an exterior road.
Parking or storing a truck or trailer over four tons empty weight at a home in a residential or agricultural district (outside the moving/delivery exceptions) violates Sec. 18.3.2. In commercial and office districts, parking a marked or delivery commercial vehicle in the front yard when side/rear space exists violates Sec. 18.3.7. Code Compliance enforces with a notice of violation and possible municipal-court citation.
