In unincorporated Kane County, parking commercial vehicles, construction vehicles or construction equipment in a yard is restricted. Construction materials and equipment may not be stored unless tied to a permitted building project on-site, and only noncommercial vehicles may sit in a driveway (Sec. 15-2).
Kane County's nuisance code (unincorporated land) addresses commercial vehicles in two ways. Sec. 15-2(n) prohibits storing 'lumber or other building materials, construction vehicles, and/or construction equipment, not in connection with a permitted building project in progress on the immediate premises.' Sec. 15-2(o) permits parking of 'noncommercial vehicles' in a driveway, implying commercial vehicles are not covered by that driveway allowance and must use a duly improved parking area. Municipalities regulate commercial-vehicle parking on their own streets and zoning; check your city if you live inside its limits.
Nuisance under Ch. 15; fine not to exceed $500 and each day is a separate offense (Sec. 15-6).
