In unincorporated Kane County, RVs, boats, camping trailers, motor homes and utility trailers may NOT be parked in any front, back, side or corner yard. Parking is allowed only on a duly improved (gravel, asphalt or concrete) area or a driveway. Incorporated cities set their own rules.
Kane County's nuisance code (Sec. 15-2(o), unincorporated land only) bars parking a boat, camping trailer, motor home, ATV, snowmobile, motorcycle, minibike or hauling trailer in any yard area between the public right-of-way and the residence. The single exception is an area 'duly improved (meaning a gravel, asphalt or concrete area) for parking purposes,' and that improved surface 'must be contiguous to the main driveway accessed from the street.' Noncommercial vehicles may sit in a driveway. Inside Aurora, Elgin, St. Charles, Geneva and other municipalities, the city zoning code governs instead of the county.
