Las Cruces prohibits parking a semi-tractor or semi-trailer on any residential street except while loading or unloading, under Sec. 27-12-6-6.15. Leaving any trailer unhitched on a public way is also unlawful.
Sec. 27-12-6-6.15 bars parking a semi-tractor and/or semi-trailer, whether connected or unconnected, on any residential street within the city, with a narrow exception for active loading and unloading. The same section makes it unlawful to leave any type of trailer, including a boat trailer, unhitched on a public way. This keeps large commercial rigs out of residential neighborhoods and off public streets when not actively working. General oversize and overweight vehicle movement is separately permitted under Sec. 27-12-6-11.1. Off-street commercial vehicle storage is governed by the city's zoning districts in the Land Development Code.
Municipal traffic offense under Sec. 27-12-6-6.15; illegally parked semis and unhitched trailers on public ways are subject to citation and towing.
