Las Cruces, NM Parking Rules: Driveway Rules (2026)

Las Cruces Code of Ordinances Sec. 1(A) lists 18 places where a vehicle may not stop, stand or park unless necessary to avoid a traffic conflict or under an officer's direction or a traffic-control device. Item (2) puts driveways squarely in that list: no one may leave a vehicle in front of a public or private driveway, whether the driveway serves a home, business or vacant lot. The same subsection bans parking on sidewalks, within intersections, within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, on crosswalks, within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection, within 30 feet of a stop sign or signal, near safety zones, within 50 feet of a railroad crossing, near fire-station driveways, alongside excavations, on bridges, on railroad tracks, between a curb and the adjacent property line, in bicycle lanes and, since a 2024 amendment (Ord.

No. 3061), in EV-charging spaces unless the vehicle is actually plugged in and charging. Subsection B bars moving an unattended vehicle into any of these prohibited spots or an unlawful distance from the curb, and subsection C lets the city's traffic administrator adjust these rules with signs, markings or meters after an engineering study. Las Cruces Police Department issues citations under this section, and the municipal court's penalty assessment schedule (Sec. 00 fine for a violation of Sec. 1. O. Drawer CLC, Las Cruces, NM 88004, within 30 days of the arrest; missing that window converts the case into a full prosecution under the New Mexico Uniform Traffic Ordinance, where the assessment schedule no longer applies and the general traffic-chapter maximum of a $300 fine or 90 days' imprisonment (Sec. 1) can be imposed instead.
