Unincorporated Contra Costa County prohibits overnight parking of commercial vehicles in residential zones under Ordinance Code Title 4, Division 46, and applicable zoning provisions in Title 8. Commercial vehicles generally include trucks exceeding 10,000 pounds gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), tractor-trailers, dump trucks, and vehicles with commercial signage or equipment. California Vehicle Code Section 22507.5 authorizes local agencies to restrict commercial vehicle parking between 2:00 AM and 6:00 AM on residential streets when signs are posted. Loading and unloading for business purposes at residences is typically permitted for limited periods (commonly under one hour). Contractor vehicles used by residents (pickup trucks, service vans under the weight threshold) are generally exempt if used by the occupant of the premises. Home businesses permitted under the County's home occupation rules cannot generate commercial vehicle traffic or store commercial equipment in ways that affect the residential character of the neighborhood.
