Terrebonne Parish, LA Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Terrebonne Parish Code § 18-202 prohibits parking or standing a long list of large or oversized vehicles on any parish street or portion of a street: truck tractors, semitrailers, boats, freight-carrying vehicles, tow trucks, dump trucks, utility trailers, boat trailers, equipment trailers, house or travel trailers, motor homes, and similar vehicles. The prohibition is a general street ban, not limited to residential zones alone, so it reaches commercial corridors and neighborhood streets alike; the only carve-out is for a vehicle actively making a pickup or delivery to or from a building on that street, meaning the vehicle can stop briefly to load or unload but cannot be left standing afterward.

The section was added by Ordinance No. 7026 in 2005 and sits within Chapter 18's article on stopping, standing and parking, alongside the parish's general owner-responsibility rule at § 18-201, which separately makes the registered owner liable when a vehicle they own is left parked in violation of any Terrebonne Parish parking ordinance, including this one. Because § 18-202 sets its own penalty rather than deferring to the Code's general misdemeanor clause, a violation carries a mandatory minimum fine regardless of the vehicle's owner status or how long it sat on the street.

Sheriff's deputies and, within the former Houma city limits, Houma Police officers cite under this section, and because it is a per-offense fine, a truck left standing on consecutive days can be cited again each day it remains.
