Terrebonne Parish, LA Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Terrebonne Parish Code § 18-222 caps ordinary on-street parking at twenty-four consecutive hours: no one may park a vehicle on a parish street or road longer than that without moving it. Section 18-242 governs how a car must sit once parked, requiring it to stand parallel to the curb, headed in the direction of traffic, with its curbside wheels within twelve inches of the edge of the roadway, unless the street is marked for angle parking, in which case the vehicle must follow the marked angle; where spaces are painted, each vehicle must fit entirely within one space.

That parallel, direction-of-traffic requirement is the parish's wrong-way parking rule, since a car parked facing oncoming traffic does not meet it. Separately, § 18-246 makes it unlawful to park any vehicle on a public street in front of or at the entrance of a driveway, a rule the code inherited from the 1965 City Code and that the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office and, within the former Houma city limits, the Houma Police Department both enforce against blocked residential and commercial driveways alike. None of these three sections carry a stated penalty of their own, so a citation for overstaying the 24-hour limit, parking against traffic, or blocking a driveway falls to the parish's general penalty clause, § 1-6, which treats an unspecified Code violation as a misdemeanor.
