Tigard, OR Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Tigard Municipal Code § 10.28.030 sets two separate truck rules for public streets inside the City of Tigard, Washington County, Oregon. Subsection A is an overnight limit: a motor bus, motor truck, truck tractor, motor home, boat, vehicle with camper, or trailer, attended or unattended, cannot stay on an improved public highway, public street or other public way for more than 30 minutes between 12 a.m. and 6 a.m. Subsection D is stricter and has no clock window: a tractor trailer or truck trailer cannot be parked unattended on a public way at any time. Subsection E exempts city-owned or public-owned vehicles operating in an official capacity.

The vehicle terms are tied to Oregon statutes by § 10.28.010.B, which adopts the ORS 801 definitions, for example motor truck under ORS 801.355, truck tractor under ORS 801.575 and truck trailer under ORS 801.580, and treats a motorbus as a commercial bus under ORS 801.200.

Other Tigard rules reach commercial vehicles too. Section 10.28.022 bans parking on a public street to sell or offer merchandise, to display the vehicle for sale, or to wash, grease or repair it except as necessitated by emergency. Section 10.28.170.N lets a commercial vehicle stop in a loading zone only while actually loading or unloading, for a period not exceeding 20 minutes. Section 10.16.051 prohibits through truck traffic at all times on listed streets, including S.W. Durham Road from S.W. Pacific Highway to S.W. Hall Boulevard and S.W. Gaarde Street from S.W. Pacific Highway to S.W. 121st Avenue, and defines a truck there as a vehicle licensed for twenty thousand pounds or more gross vehicle weight.

On private residential property, § 6.02.170 allows commercial vehicles in excess of 3/4 ton capacity to be stored in a required front yard in a residential zone, but only if they stay out of visual clearance areas, carry current state license plates or registration, and are kept in mobile condition.
