Troy, MI Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

14 of Troy's Traffic and Motor Vehicles Ordinance makes it unlawful to park a motor vehicle off the street on private property without the owner's consent, off the street on public property without authorization, or on the lawn extension between the curb and the lot line. Subsection (4) then targets commercial traffic specifically: no owner or operator may park a commercial vehicle, truck, or trailer on a residential street in Troy for longer than one hour, unless the vehicle is being used to deliver or pick up goods, wares, merchandise, or materials, or to service a residence on that street, and then only for as long as the service takes.

The ordinance defines commercial vehicle broadly to cover any motor vehicle used to transport passengers for hire, or built or used to haul goods, construction materials, wares, or merchandise, plus any vehicle designed to draw other vehicles that cannot carry a load independently. It carves out one exception: a personal vehicle operated by a transportation network company driver does not count as a commercial vehicle, so a rideshare driver's own car parked on a residential street is not subject to the one-hour cap. The rule was last revised June 26, 2023 and took effect July 13, 2023.
