Waterloo, IA Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Waterloo Traffic Code § 279, "Truck And Bus Parking Prohibited," keeps heavy commercial vehicles off residential blocks. It bars parking a motor truck, an implement of husbandry, a special mobile unit, a van, or any other vehicle used to carry freight or persons on any residential street in the city, and it extends that same ban to three named commercial streets: Cyclone Drive, Titan Trail, and Athens Drive. The only exception is an active delivery or pickup, and even then the vehicle may stay "only for a length of time reasonably necessary to perform said function," not for general storage or overnight parking.

The section carves out three specific classes of vehicle that residents can still park on their own street: light delivery trucks, panel delivery trucks, and pick-up trucks are never covered by the ban. School buses get a narrower carve-out tied to the school calendar; they may park on a residential street only on days school is in session and only between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., so a bus parked overnight or on a non-school day violates the section.
