Corpus Christi, TX Parking Rules: Curb Color Rules (2026)

Sec. 53-143 sets the meaning behind every color of curb paint in the city: a solid red curb bars parking outright, a white curb carrying a stenciled number limits parking to the time shown by that number, a yellow curb with black vertical stripes marks a bus zone, and a yellow curb stenciled 'Loading Zone' in black letters marks space reserved for loading. The ordinance is explicit that once one of these four markings is placed on a curb, it 'shall constitute' a parking sign, meaning the paint itself carries the same legal force as a posted sign; no separate sign is required for the restriction to be enforceable.

This sits inside Division 1 of Chapter 53's parking article, alongside Sec. 53-140's general rule that vehicles must park within eighteen inches of the curb, headed with traffic. Curb color rules interact with sign-based restrictions established elsewhere in the division, such as angle-parking zones the city manager marks under Sec. 53-141 and no-parking zones near schools or on narrow streets under Sec. 53-148 and Sec. 53-149. Because the ordinance treats curb paint as self-executing signage, a driver cannot argue a lack of posted signs where painted curb markings are present and legible. The rule traces back to 1958 city code section 21-102, carried forward without substantive amendment into the current ordinance.
