Porterville, CA Parking Rules: Curb Color Rules (2026)

Section 17-12.1 authorizes the city traffic engineer to place curb markings indicating parking and standing regulations and fixes what each color means. A red curb means no stopping, standing or parking at any time except as permitted by the state Vehicle Code, with a carve-out letting a bus stop in a red zone marked or signed as a bus zone. A yellow curb means no stopping, standing or parking between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM on any day except Sundays and holidays, for any purpose other than loading or unloading passengers or materials, and even then passenger loading cannot exceed three minutes and material loading cannot exceed twenty minutes.

A white curb means no stopping, standing or parking except for loading or unloading passengers or for depositing mail in an adjacent mailbox (capped at three minutes), applying during the same 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM window on non-Sunday, non-holiday days, except that the time restriction runs at all times in front of a hotel or a mailbox, and at all times a theater is open. Once the traffic engineer has placed a legible marking, section 17-12.1(D) makes it unlawful for any driver to stop, stand or park contrary to it. These color codes work together with the loading-zone authority in section 17-12 and the loading-time limits in section 17-12.2.
