Porterville, CA Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Section 17-10.3, in the traffic chapter's stopping-and-standing article, lists the specific places where no operator may stop, stand, park or leave a vehicle standing, except when necessary to avoid a traffic conflict or when directed by a police officer or traffic control device. The list includes divisional islands unless signed or marked otherwise; areas the city traffic engineer determines are a traffic hazard or would endanger life or property, marked by red curb paint or signs; railway tracks where a parked car would hinder, delay or obstruct a train; areas needed for street cleaning, repair, construction or utility work where 24-hour advance notice signs have been posted; and, closer to intersections, within 20 feet of a crosswalk in the central traffic district or a business district, and within 20 feet of the approach to a traffic signal, boulevard stop or flashing device.

Section 17-10 states these rules apply at all times or at the specified times, and do not relieve a driver of the duty to follow more restrictive state Vehicle Code provisions. A separate rule at section 17-11.3 governs which side of a one-way street a vehicle may park on, requiring parking within 18 inches of the curb facing the posted direction of travel unless signs say otherwise. The Porterville Police Department enforces these curb and hazard-zone prohibitions citywide.
