Porterville, CA Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Municipal Code section 17-11.7 prohibits parking any commercial vehicle with a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds or more, in whole or in part, on a roadway adjacent to property zoned RS-1, RS-2, RM-1, RM-2, RM-3, PK or PO within the City of Porterville. A violation is classified as an infraction rather than a misdemeanor. The section carves out three narrow exceptions: while the vehicle is actually loading or unloading property, with the crew on scene; while parked in connection with, and in aid of, a service being performed on a property in the same block, again only while work is actively in progress and the crew is present; and when the vehicle has broken down along an authorized route of travel, but only while repair or towing help is actually en route to or working on the vehicle.

Each exception is drawn tightly to the period work is genuinely underway, so a truck parked overnight after a delivery or repair no longer qualifies. The ordinance dates to Ord. 1162 (1978) and was amended by Ord. 1390 (1987) and Ord. 1663 (2016). Because the restriction runs by zoning district rather than street segment, it reaches residential streets throughout Porterville's single-family and multi-family zones plus the PK (park) and PO (public/quasi-public) districts, and is enforced by the Porterville Police Department as an infraction citation.
