Abington, PA Parking Rules: Driveway Rules (2026)

Section 98-2(F) of the Code of the Township of Abington amends § 302.8 of the adopted International Property Maintenance Code of 2021 to add a specific lawn-parking prohibition: storage, parking, abandonment or keeping of any licensed or unlicensed motor vehicle, vehicle, watercraft, trailer, or any parts thereof shall not be permitted on any lawn or grass area. This sits alongside the same amendment's separate ban on inoperative, unlicensed or uninsured vehicles anywhere on the premises, but the lawn-and-grass clause reaches further: it covers even a licensed, insured, operable vehicle, a boat, a trailer, or loose parts, if it sits on grass rather than a driveway, walkway or other approved surface.

The only carve-out in § 302.8 is for major overhaul or body work performed inside a structure or similarly enclosed area designed and approved for the purpose, which does not help a resident who simply parks an extra car on the side lawn. The same Housing Standards chapter, at § 98-2(D), separately caps grass height at 10 inches under amended § 302.4 and, at § 98-2(E), bars using defoliants or herbicides to kill off 20% or more of a lot rather than mow it, showing the chapter's broader concern with what happens to yards and lawns Township-wide.

Enforcement of these Property Maintenance Code provisions runs through the Code Enforcement Division of the Township of Abington, the office § 98-2(B) names when amending former § 103.1, and the chapter's printed stop-work penalty at amended § 110.4 shows fines in the Housing Standards chapter running $500 to $1,000 for a related continuing violation.
