Abington, PA Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Section 98-2(G) of the Code of the Township of Abington adds § 302.8.1 to the adopted International Property Maintenance Code of 2021. The provision splits into two limits. First, no residential property may keep or store a truck more than 18 feet in length, more than 80 inches in width, or more than 8,200 pounds gross vehicle weight rating, and the same clause reaches motor-driven trucks and truck tractors designed to carry personal property or vehicle-servicing equipment, expressly naming hoists, ladders and towing mechanisms as covered equipment even on a smaller chassis.

Second, on streets in residential zoning districts, no commercial vehicle may be parked, kept or stored if it is more than 80 inches wide or more than 11,000 pounds gross vehicle weight rating, a street-level rule distinct from the property-level storage limit. The ordinance carves out one exception: a truck making a legitimate delivery to a residential property may complete that delivery as long as it is properly and safely parked, so a moving truck or furniture delivery vehicle briefly on a residential street is not swept into the ban.

A separate exception preserved elsewhere in § 302.8 lets repairs happen in districts where district zoning regulations otherwise permit vehicle repair work. Because § 302.8.1 sits inside the Housing Standards chapter's Property Maintenance Code amendments, enforcement runs through the Code Enforcement Division of the Township of Abington named at § 98-2(B), and the chapter's printed Housing Standards penalty scale for a related continuing violation, the stop-work fine at amended § 110.4, runs $500 to $1,000.
