Abington, PA Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Chapter 157, Vehicles, Parking of, adopted in 1985 by Ordinance No. 1590, lays out Abington Township's general on-street parking prohibitions separate from the metered-zone rules in Chapter 156. Section 157-1A bars stopping, standing or parking on the roadway side of another parked vehicle, on a sidewalk, within an intersection, on a crosswalk, between a safety zone and the curb within 30 feet of the zone's ends, alongside a street excavation that would obstruct traffic, on a bridge or in a highway tunnel, on railroad tracks, in the median of a divided highway, or anywhere signs prohibit stopping.

Section 157-1A(2) adds specific standing and parking buffers: no standing in front of a public or private driveway, within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection, within 30 feet of the approach to a flashing signal, stop sign, yield sign or traffic signal, or within 20 feet of a fire station driveway (75 feet on the opposite side if posted). Parking itself is further barred within 50 feet of a railroad crossing. Beyond the prohibited locations, § 157-1B requires every parked vehicle on a two-way street to sit parallel to the curb with its right wheels within 12 inches of the curb, and sets the mirrored rule for one-way streets; angle parking is allowed only after the Township studies the street's width and, on state highways, gets state approval.

Handicapped drivers and disabled veterans displaying the proper plate or placard get 60 extra minutes beyond a posted time limit under § 157-1B(4). The Police Department enforces the chapter, with the Fire Marshal handling violations in fire lanes and fire zones specifically, under § 157-3.
