Gulfport's zoning chapter treats yard parking differently depending on what kind of home sits on the lot. Sec. 06(b), the design and use requirements for every off-street parking area required elsewhere in article VI, states in paragraph (6) that within residential zoning districts, parking for a single-family or duplex dwelling may be permitted within a required front or rear yard. A multi-family building gets a narrower allowance: its parking may go in a required rear yard only, and only if it is properly screened from the neighboring property, with front-yard or side-yard parking off the table entirely.

The same subsection sets the mechanical baseline: standard parking spaces must be at least nine feet wide, and paragraph (5) bars using any public right-of-way as required parking within commercial districts, or parking in a way that blocks sight lines at intersections, driveways or alleys. Paragraph (7) adds that any artificial lighting over a parking area must be shielded so it does not glare onto neighboring residential property or public streets. None of these rules ties the front-yard allowance to a particular surface material like gravel or concrete; the code's silence on surfacing there means the front-yard-parking question in Gulfport turns on which zoning district and dwelling type the lot carries, not on what the driveway is paved with.
