Gulfport, FL Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Every building or use in Gulfport that would generate delivery or shipping traffic must set aside its own off-street loading space rather than lean on the street, alley or sidewalk. Sec. 06(g)(1) requires that space be adequate so trucks can load and unload without encroaching on public rights-of-way used by pedestrians and other vehicles. Paragraph (3) defines the minimum: a loading space has to be at least ten feet wide, twenty-five feet long, with fourteen feet of vertical clearance at grade, accessible from a public street or alley without crossing or entering another required loading space, and arranged so trucks and trailer combinations can enter and exit safely.

That space also has to be reachable from inside the building it serves. Paragraph (2) closes the obvious loophole: if a structure is later enlarged, or its use changes to one that needs off-street loading under this subsection, the property has to add the full amount of loading space the larger or new use requires, not just keep whatever loading area it already had. Paragraph (4) then schedules how many spaces are required based on the gross floor area of stores, markets, restaurants, laundries and dry cleaning establishments, scaling upward as the tenant's floor area grows.

The requirement sits inside Sec. 06, the same off-street parking section that governs where cars, not just trucks, may park on a commercial lot, so a site plan has to satisfy both the parking and loading standards together before the Building Official signs off.
