Fort Collins, CO Parking Rules: EV Charging (2026)

Chapter 24, Article VI (Sections 24-180 through 24-186), adopted by Ordinance No. 153, 2025, on October 7, 2025, governs "electric vehicle charging by temporary cord draping" to let residents without dedicated off-street parking charge a curbside vehicle. Section 24-182(b) requires a resident to use available off-street parking instead of cord draping if any exists. Where none exists, Section 24-182(c) allows charging only one vehicle at a time at the resident's own single-unit or multi-unit residence, only while the vehicle is legally parked, and only in compliance with the placement, covering and safety rules in Section 24-183.

Section 24-182(d) restricts the equipment to Level 1 (110-120V) cords, expressly banning any Level 2 (240V) cord across the right-of-way, and requires the cord be plugged into an outlet tied to the resident's own utility bill. 3 percent grade, include 3-by-5-foot clear landings on each side, and carry a label on its underside with the resident's name, address, email, phone number and liability insurance policy information. Section 24-184 bans selling charging time or parking space and bans reserving a space with signage. Section 24-185 lets the City Engineer order a violation corrected within five business days, and if uncured, discontinue cord-draping permission at that location, remove the equipment, fine the resident for restoration costs, or cite them, with emergency removal allowed without notice if the setup poses an imminent safety threat. Section 24-186 allows appeal to the City Manager.
