Section 1204, Stopping, standing or parking prohibited in specified places, is the Traffic Code's general on-street parking rulebook. Subsection (1) lists absolute no-stop zones regardless of signage: sidewalks, intersections, crosswalks, safety zones, street excavations, bridges, railroad tracks, controlled-access highways and, per Paragraph (l), any part of any sidewalk, grass strip, median or any other street right-of-way between the curb and the property line. Subsection (2) adds distance buffers that block driveway access and sightlines: no standing or parking within five feet of a public or private driveway, except for buses, school buses and taxicabs loading passengers or vehicles actively and briefly loading with hazard lights on; within fifteen feet of a fire hydrant; within twenty feet of a crosswalk; within thirty feet of a stop sign, yield sign or signal; and with less than two feet of clearance between vehicles.

Subsection (6) caps how long a vehicle may sit in a time-restricted block face or lot and bars return-and-park schemes: a driver who vacates a time-restricted space cannot park the same vehicle back in the same block face or lot within four hours, even if the original time limit has technically reset. Wrong-way curb parking is handled by the neighboring Section 1205, which requires every vehicle on a two-way street to stop with its right-hand wheels parallel to and within twelve inches of the right-hand curb, meaning a car parked facing oncoming traffic on the wrong side of the street violates Section 1205 even where Section 1204 imposes no separate distance restriction.
