The hours during which the provisions of this section are applicable shall be between the hours of 4:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. for a freight loading zone and between the hours of 4:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. for an extended hours freight loading zone. In no case shall the stop for loading and unloading of materials exceed thirty (30) minutes. The vehicle must have the emergency flashers engaged during the entire length of time for which the vehicle is stopped, standing or parked in the loading zone. In the event that the fee in an amount determined pursuant to section 27-8 titled Fees, fines and penalties is not paid within sixty (60) days after billing, the loading zone shall be removed by the designating official. (Code 1969, § 27-351; Ord. No. O87-23, § 1, 2-16-88; Ord. No. O13-005, § 1(Exh. A), 2-12-13)

Editor's note— Ord. No. O13-005, § 1(Exh. A), adopted Feb. 12, 2013, changed the title of § 27-202 from "Curb loading zone permits required; fee, duration" to "Freight loading zone."

Full Breakdown

City Code § 27-202 lets Aurora's traffic compliance administrator designate freight loading zones by permit, marked with signs at the applicant's expense. Standard zones apply between 4:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.; extended-hours zones run until 3:00 p.m. Within those hours, only vehicles actively loading or unloading materials may stop there, and no stop may exceed thirty minutes; the vehicle must keep its emergency flashers on the entire time. Outside posted hours the space reverts to public parking. The rule governs every Aurora street regardless of which of the city's four counties it falls in.

Violations & Fines

Stopping past the 30-minute limit, or parking there outside posted hours without loading, draws a citation and fine set under § 27-8.
