Bessemer, AL Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Bessemer Code of Ordinances Sec. 106-133 through 106-141 governs loading zones citywide. The chief of police and city traffic schedule designate specific curb locations as loading zones (Sec. 106-133). Section 106-134 bars parking or leaving standing any automobile, motor truck or other vehicle on or along, and within 20 feet of the curbline of, any street portion designated as a loading zone. " Section 106-136 limits use of these prohibited-parking zones strictly to loading and unloading motor trucks or other freight vehicles serving businesses located in the same block, and expressly states no such zone may be used as a parking place for any vehicle, freight or otherwise.

A parallel set of provisions, Sec. 106-137 through 106-140, applies the identical structure to bus loading zones: designated locations, a 20-foot no-parking buffer, yellow curb marking with a "NO PARKING, BUS LOADING ZONE" sign, and use restricted to common carriers of passengers for hire operating bus transportation in or through the city. Section 106-141 gives the chief of police authority to mark off additional loading zones within parking zones described in the traffic schedule using painted or durably marked curb lines, with each marked space reserved for loading and unloading only.

None of these sections state fixed daily hours; loading zone status and any time restriction are set through the city traffic schedule referenced throughout the article, which the police department maintains and can update for specific blocks.
