Coeur d'Alene, ID Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Section 10.20.080 of the Coeur d'Alene Municipal Code allows one use of an alley or loading zone: loading or unloading. Any other parking there is prohibited. The loading or unloading has to be done as expeditiously as possible, and the vehicle cannot stay longer than 30 minutes elapsed time in any one block. The section sets no hours of the day, so the 30-minute cap is the measured limit. Section 10.20.070 is the companion rule: whenever possible, all deliveries and pick ups by motor vehicles or by trucks are made from alleys.

Alleys carry a second restriction in section 10.20.010 A, which bars stopping, standing or parking in an alley so as to hinder or block traffic. Curb space outside alleys is set by the City Council. Under section 10.24.010 the Council establishes time-limited spaces by resolution or ordinance, and the City Engineer or designee marks off the spaces and zones and places the signs. Section 10.24.060 states that nothing in the limited time parking chapter prevents the City from providing for the loading or unloading of trucks, vans or other commercial vehicles, limited parking zones, and extended parking privileges for construction and maintenance vehicles in limited parking zones. Where the City posts a 15 minute space, section 10.24.020 A bars continuous parking longer than 15 minutes between 9:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M. on any day except Sundays and holidays.

The Police Department controls short-term curb closures. Section 10.20.050 authorizes the police department to indicate temporary zones where vehicles cannot park when, in the opinion of the chief of police, it is necessary to prevent the parking of vehicles temporarily on a street. The chief does so with signs, barricades or officers, and the owner of a vehicle removed from such a zone pays the cost of removal.
