Coeur d'Alene, ID Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Section 10.20.010 of the Coeur d'Alene Municipal Code lists the places where no person can stop, stand or park a vehicle unless it is necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or a police officer or traffic control device directs otherwise. The list includes a sidewalk, the space in front of a public or private driveway, an intersection and a crosswalk. Parking is also barred within 30 feet in each direction from the point of intersection of the curb lines at an intersection, and within 20 feet of any other marked pedestrian crossing. The section adds bans on parking in an alley so as to hinder or block traffic, in front of a mailbox in a manner that prevents mail delivery, on a marked bicycle lane or footpath, on the roadway side of a vehicle already stopped or parked at the curb, and within 15 feet of a fire hydrant unless the vehicle sits in a space designated under section 10.24.020 or in a marked fire lane.

Section 10.20.060 sets the manner of parking. Motor vehicles park parallel to the curb or edge of the roadway on all streets and avenues, in the direction of authorized traffic movement, with the wheels within 18 inches of the curb. Where the city engineer or designee finds adequate right of way and the space is striped, vehicles park diagonally or perpendicularly as the striping indicates, with the wheel closest to the curb no more than 8 inches from it. No portion of a vehicle can cross a line or marking of a parking space, and the whole vehicle must sit within the marked area. Section 10.20.010 B also bars moving a vehicle not lawfully under your control into an area where parking is prohibited.

Signs and markings carry the rest of the rules. Traffic control devices that regulate stopping, standing or parking are placed at the direction of the City Council by duly passed resolution, and a vehicle left where such a device bars parking is in violation.
