Coeur d'Alene, ID Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

Section 10.24.030 B of the Coeur d'Alene Municipal Code sets the outer limit for leaving a vehicle on a public way: no vehicle can be parked continuously at the same location or combination of locations within the same block on any public street or alley in the City for more than 24 hours. The rule covers spaces without the two hour time limit. A block means a segment of a street bounded by successive cross streets, an intersection of a street, street rights-of-way, parks, undeveloped acreage, unsubdivided acreage, railroad rights-of-way or a combination of those.

A vehicle is not considered parked continuously if it is moved from the block for a period of at least one hour. Proof falls on the owner or operator, who has to show by a preponderance of the evidence that the vehicle was moved as required. The statement of the owner or operator alone is insufficient to meet that burden, so a receipt, photograph or witness backs up the claim.

Two hour spaces carry a tighter rule under section 10.24.030 A. No owner or occupier can occupy a two-hour space for more than 2 hours, and after parking cannot occupy a two-hour space within 300 feet of that space for at least 3 hours after the initial two hour period expires, regardless of how long the vehicle was parked. Section 10.24.020 B applies a two hour limit between 9:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M., except Sundays and holidays, along Sherman Avenue from Second Street to Eighth Street and along the downtown streets listed there, including First Street, Second Street, Lakeside Avenue and Front Avenue segments.

The Police Department or other persons designated by the City enforce the chapter under section 10.24.040. Section 10.20.050 separately lets the chief of police create temporary no parking zones with signs, barricades or officers, with removal costs paid by the owner.
