Gainesville, FL Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Section 26-96 authorizes the city manager to determine where passenger and freight curb loading zones go and requires signs stating the hours each zone's rules apply. Once posted, Sec. 26-97 bars any vehicle from stopping, standing or parking in a marked passenger curb loading zone for any purpose other than the expeditious loading or unloading of passengers, and only during the hours the zone's regulations are in effect; outside those hours the space reverts to ordinary parking rules. Section 26-98 imposes the identical restriction on freight curb loading zones, limiting standing to the expeditious unloading, delivery, pickup or loading of materials during posted hours.

Downtown, Sec. 26-102 adds a separate mid-street loading option: a clearly marked business vehicle can straddle the center line of a two-way downtown side street to load or unload, provided it leaves at least ten feet on each side for other traffic, parks at least 30 feet from the nearest intersection with hazard flashers on, and limits the stop to no more than 15 minutes. and during any special downtown event or whenever a law enforcement officer judges traffic conditions unsafe for it. Every loading-zone and mid-street violation is enforced through the Sec. 26-46 public-nuisance framework, with the administrative fee set in Appendix A billed to the vehicle's registered owner.
