Gainesville, FL Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Section 26-47(a)(1) prohibits stopping, standing or parking a vehicle in 16 listed situations unless the stop is needed to avoid conflicting traffic or is made under a police officer's direction. Drivers may not park in front of or within five feet of a driveway, within an intersection, on a crosswalk, on the roadway side of another parked vehicle, or in the opposite direction of the flow of traffic under clause (a)(1)p. 1955. Subsection (a)(2) adds standing bans within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, within 30 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection, and within 20 feet of a fire station driveway.

Subsection (b) separately prohibits leaving any vehicle on a public street for a continuous period beyond 72 hours, parking longer than posted meter or sign limits, or parking a vehicle over 25 feet long in a designated space except for emergency breakdowns or loading. Section 26-46 makes these violations a public nuisance and trespass, assigns fault to the vehicle's registered owner, and routes citations to a fee schedule in Appendix A. Officers place a written notice of violation on the vehicle describing the section violated and the fee owed, and the registered owner can submit an affidavit of explanation within seven calendar days for circumstances such as a malfunctioning meter or a verified emergency.
