Summary

Palm Bay limits freight curb loading zones to active loading and unloading only, capping any stop at 30 minutes regardless of how much is being moved.

No person shall stop, stand or park a vehicle for any purpose or length of time other than for the expeditious unloading and delivery or pick-up and loading of materials in any place marked as a freight curb loading zone during hours when the provisions applicable to such zones are in effect. In no case shall the stop for loading and unloading of materials exceed thirty (30) minutes.

(B)   The driver of a vehicle may stop temporarily at a place marked as a freight curb loading zone for the purpose of and while actually engaged in loading or unloading passengers when such stopping does not interfere with any motor vehicle used for the transportation of materials which is waiting to enter or about to enter such zone. (Ord. 2007-23, passed 4-5-07; Am. Ord. 2015-60, passed 12-1-15) Penalty, see § 74.999

Full Breakdown

Freight curb loading zones in Palm Bay are reserved for actively loading or unloading materials, not general parking. A vehicle can stop there only while goods are being moved, and the stop cannot run past 30 minutes even during active loading. Drivers may also stop briefly to pick up or drop off passengers, but only if it doesn't interfere with a delivery vehicle waiting to use the zone. Stopping there for any other purpose, or for longer than the cap, is a citable violation regardless of intent.

Violations & Fines

Parking or standing in a marked freight loading zone for longer than 30 minutes, or for any purpose besides loading or unloading, draws a $25 citation.
