Schenectady, NY Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Section 248-47, Loading or unloading, splits marked curb zones into two uses. Subsection A reserves any place marked as a passenger zone for the expeditious loading or unloading of passengers only, during whatever hours the posted regulations for that zone are in effect; no other stopping, standing or parking is allowed there during those hours. Subsection B covers marked loading zones: a vehicle may stop there only for the expeditious unloading and delivery, or pickup and loading, of materials while the zone's posted hours are in effect, and the stop cannot exceed 30 minutes under any circumstance.

Subsection C separately requires a bus operator to stop within 12 inches of and parallel to the curb when picking up or discharging passengers, unless an obstruction prevents it, in which case the operator must stop as near the curb as possible. These loading-zone rules sit in the same chapter as § 248-48, which reserves bus stops and taxicab stands for buses and taxis respectively, again allowing only a brief passenger-loading stop by other vehicles. 2, and a vehicle parked in violation of the chapter can be removed under § 248-51.

Because loading and passenger zones aren't separately priced in the § 248-2 table, a violation of § 248-47 falls under the catchall $40 fine for chapter violations not specifically listed, unless the enforcing officer treats the stop as double parking, no standing or another listed offense.
