Wylie, TX Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Wylie Code of Ordinances § 110-182 gives the city traffic engineer authority to determine and designate where passenger and freight curb loading zones sit, and requires signs stating the hours the zone's rules apply. The two zone types carry different time limits. Under § 110-183, a passenger curb loading zone can only be used for the expeditious loading or unloading of passengers during its posted hours, and a vehicle cannot stay longer than three minutes there, except that a space adjacent to and serving a hotel or bus station gets 15 minutes.

Under § 110-184, a freight curb loading zone is reserved during its posted hours for commercial vehicles engaged in the expeditious loading, unloading, pickup or delivery of material, and even a commercial vehicle cannot exceed 30 minutes there; a passenger vehicle may only stop there temporarily to load or unload passengers, and only if it does not block a material-carrying vehicle waiting to use the zone. Beyond curb zones, § 110-185 lets the traffic engineer issue a separate permit, for a council-set fee, allowing a vehicle to back up to the curb to load or unload merchandise, and violating any special term of that permit is separately unlawful.

None of these three sections states its own fine amount, so a violation of the loading-zone time limits or the backing-to-curb permit conditions is punished as a traffic offense under the citywide general penalty in § 1-13, which caps most Chapter 110 traffic violations as a Class C misdemeanor at a fine not to exceed $200.00, unless a different Chapter 110 section, such as the impounding provision at § 110-172, applies to remove the offending vehicle from the zone.
