Yonkers, NY Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

City Code § 109-7 gives the Traffic Engineer sole authority to designate passenger-loading and freight-loading zones and to post signs stating the hours each zone is in effect; the regulation is not effective until those signs go up. § 109-84 sets the actual curb-time limits: in a marked "passenger zone," a vehicle may stop only for the expeditious loading or unloading of passengers, and for no more than three minutes, during the zone's posted hours (§ 109-84A). In a marked "loading zone," a vehicle may stop only for the expeditious unloading, delivery, pickup or loading of materials, and the stop cannot exceed 30 minutes, again only during posted hours (§ 109-84B).

Separately, § 109-8 lets the Traffic Engineer issue the owner of a delivery vehicle an annual, renewable special permit to back against the curb for loading and unloading, if that privilege is reasonably necessary to the owner's business and will not significantly interfere with the safe, smooth flow of traffic. Enforcement runs through the City's Parking Violations Office, created under § 109-33 with exclusive jurisdiction over parking infractions; under § 109-36B, monetary penalties the Office may impose for an ordinary parking violation, which covers overstaying a posted loading or passenger zone, cannot exceed $50 per violation unless the City Council changes the schedule by resolution.
