Yuma, AZ Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Two sister sections split Yuma's loading-zone rules by who does the designating. Section 212-20 lets the Chief of Police mark a freight loading zone with signs or a yellow-painted curb; once marked, no one may stop, stand or park there for any purpose, with two exceptions: expeditiously loading or unloading freight for up to 30 minutes, or a vehicle bearing a state disabled-parking placard loading or unloading passengers for up to 20 minutes. Section 212-21 gives the city's Traffic Engineer the same authority over passenger loading zones, but the general loading window there is much shorter, just five minutes, for loading or unloading passengers before the vehicle must move; a disabled-placard vehicle still gets the same 20-minute allowance as in a freight zone.

Both sections descend from the original 1978 traffic code; § 212-20 traces to Ord. 1798 and was clarified by Ord. 1902 in 1980, while § 212-21 was added later by Ord. O2002-54 in 2002. Neither section states who may use a freight versus passenger zone beyond the loading purpose itself, so a vehicle not actively loading freight or passengers within the time allowed is in violation the moment it exceeds the window, whether or not the driver remains with the vehicle.
