The City of Alhambra bans overnight parking on all public streets from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. every day under Municipal Code Chapter 11.36, unless the vehicle has a valid permit or disabled placard. Annual virtual permits cost $65 (rising to $70 on July 1, 2025), and temporary permits cost $5 per night for up to ten nights.
Alhambra's all-night parking rules are codified in Chapter 11.36 of the Municipal Code, with Section 11.36.010 setting the hours when parking is restricted and Section 11.36.016 requiring a permit. Parking is restricted on all public streets in the city between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m., seven days per week, without a valid parking permit or valid disabled placard. This is a substantial departure from the California Vehicle Code, which contains no statewide overnight ban and leaves such regulation to local authorities. Residents have two main permit options. The annual residential vehicle permit is virtual (no physical permit is mailed) and costs $65.00 each, increasing to $70.00 effective July 1, 2025; each household member who owns a vehicle may buy one, and applicants must provide current California DMV registration and proof of Alhambra residency matching the property address. Permits become active immediately upon payment and are linked to the license plate. For visitors or occasional needs, a Temporary Overnight Parking Permit costs $5 per night (plus a small convenience fee), and up to ten nights may be purchased in a single transaction; these are available online, at the Police Department lobby self-service machine at 111 S. First Street, and at a 7-Eleven self-service machine at 2150 S. Fremont Avenue. The same size and weight limits apply: vehicles over 6,000 lbs, 8 ft tall, 6 ft wide, or 20 ft long are not eligible. Several arterials (Main, Atlantic, Fremont, Garfield, Mission, Valley) prohibit overnight parking outright.
Any vehicle parked on a public street between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. without a valid overnight permit or disabled placard may be cited for violating the 2 a.m.-6 a.m. restriction under Chapter 11.36. Temporary permits can be purchased online or at self-service machines; the Traffic Section at 626-570-5119 handles permit questions.
