The City of Alhambra heavily restricts recreational vehicles and trailers on city streets. RVs may only obtain a 3-day permit for loading or unloading, capped at two per month at $15 each, sold in person at the Police Department Traffic section. Trailers and non-motorized vehicles cannot get an overnight permit at all.
Alhambra's on-street parking is governed by its own Municipal Code, principally Chapter 11.36 (All-Night Parking) and Chapter 11.28 (Stopping, Standing and Parking), not Los Angeles County rules. Because parking is restricted on all public streets from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. every day without a permit, recreational vehicles and boats face a layered set of limits. The city's online overnight-permit system will not issue a Temporary Overnight Parking Permit to any vehicle exceeding 6,000 pounds, more than 8 feet high, more than 6 feet wide, or more than 20 feet long, nor to non-motorized vehicles or trailers; most RVs, boats on trailers, and travel trailers therefore exceed these thresholds and are excluded from the standard permit. Instead, a qualifying RV may purchase a special RV permit issued only for the purpose of loading or unloading before or after a trip. Each RV is limited to two 3-day permits per month, and the cost is $15 for three days. These RV permits must be bought in person from the Alhambra Police Department Traffic Division and cannot be obtained from the online portal or the self-service machines used for ordinary vehicles. Separately, the citywide 72-hour rule under Municipal Code Section 11.28.130 prohibits leaving any vehicle on a street or alley for 72 or more consecutive hours, so an RV cannot be stored on the street between trips.
Parking an RV, boat, or trailer overnight (2 a.m.-6 a.m.) without the required permit, or leaving it on a street more than 72 consecutive hours, is a citable violation under the Alhambra Municipal Code. RV permits are available only in person from the Police Department Traffic section; questions go to the Traffic Section at 626-570-5119.
