Taunton, MA Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

Section 405-52 of the Taunton Code, most recently amended September 19, 2011, targets two related problems: trucks stopping in traffic to load or unload, and heavy vehicles parking on residential streets overnight. Subsection A first requires any driver who wants to stop a motor truck or vehicle in a public street, way or bridge to load, deliver, unload or pick up goods, where the stop could interfere with traffic, to hold a license from the Chief of Police authorizing the stop, unless the vehicle is in an official parking space or on a street where parking is unrestricted.

The Chief may grant that license for a specified time or to allow backing against the curb at a set time. on any street in the City, with no street-by-street exception written into the text. Subsection B backs that ban with its own penalty rather than deferring to the chapter-wide fine, making clear the City treats this violation as its own category. The ban covers the vehicle categories by name, so a passenger car or ordinary pickup truck parked overnight is not swept in, but anything meeting the trailer, tractor, tractor-trailer or camper description is barred regardless of whether it is attached to a residence, a business, or simply parked on a public way for the night.
